The
unique sports scholarship in Germany
supports
active competitive athletes during their Bachelor or Master studies at the University of Mannheim, the University of Heidelberg or the Mannheim Business School (MBS) both financially and
financially as well as
organizationally
with their
dual career.
Since its inception in 2009, the Sports Scholarship has assisted over 175 active competitive athletes in achieving their maximum athletic and academic goals.
The scholarship thus offers optimal conditions, which were previously only known in this form from sports scholarships in the USA, and represents the perfect alternative or supplement for
elite athletes with a desire to study at the sports support groups of the German Armed Forces and the German Federal Police.
In addition, the scholarship gives (squad) athletes security on their way to graduation, and enables contact and exchange with other athletes from various sports.
This compensation for disadvantages eases the double burden of study and elite-level sport for competitive athletes compared to those who are not from high-performance sport.
Whether soccer, track and field or swimming, all competitive athletes of the:
or the
of all sports supported by the DOSB can apply.
Interested competitive athletes can get informationabout the requirements and required documents (e.g. squad status, letter of motivation, curriculum vitae, proof of performance) for the application here.
In the series ROAD TO TOKYO the University of Mannheim has accompanied their Olympic candidates. The videos provide unique insights into the life between studies and elite-class sports of our sports scholarship holders Julia Hassler (swimming), Lena Dieter (paratriathlon), Sarah Brüßler (canoeing) and Linus Müller and Sonja Zimmermann (field hockey).
